Caskets

The majority of steel caskets available on the market today are known as "protective" caskets. This terminology reflects that they are manufactured with a one-piece rubber gasket that runs around the inner lid of the casket.

Once closed, a locking mechanism draws the lids onto the base and the gasket forms a seal. This protective seal protects the deceased from the entrance of air and other gravesite elements.

Standard Steel caskets are strong and durable and made from carbon steel.  Carbon steel is used to build everything from automobiles to skyscrapers.  Our steel caskets provide solid value and are commonly manufactured in light-weight or 20 gauge steel, medium-weight or 18 gauge steel, and heavy-weight or 16 gauge steel.

Interiors are tastefully coordinated in a variety of materials form crepe to velvet allowing for a range of pricing to meet a wide variety of budget concerns.  The high quality fabric used in the interior of a casket represents an integral part of its overall value.  Crepe offers exceptional eye appeal and value, while heavier plush velvets provide unparalleled elegance and luxury.

ALERT TO FAMILIES ABOUT THIRD-PARTY CASKET

SALES - PLEASE BE VERY CAUTIOUS!

When discussing funeral service merchandise such as caskets with your family or loved ones, ALWAYS consult a local funeral director with questions that you may have.  Many large, corporate-owned cemeteries in our area along with third party salespeople are now selling caskets.  Many people in the community, especially the elderly, receive phone calls from these individuals saying they want to update their records or come to their home to talk about caskets and funeral services.  Many go so far as to say that they are working for the particular funeral home that you or your family patronize.

PLEASE BE ALERT AND CAUTIOUS OF THIS!

These large, corporate-owned cemeteries and salespeople do not have your best interests in mind and work off of commissions on what they sell.  Many of them sell an inferior, inexpensive casket and charges can be up to 4 times more than what a funeral home would charge for the same or very similar casket.  That's right!  Up to 4 times more!  Why then would people and families spend this kind of money when you can deal with your local funeral director and pay a lot less?  Well, many people do not want to discuss death and funerals.  This is of course very, very normal.  Who wants to sit around and talk about death and caskets?  Some people just want to "get it over with" so when a third party salesperson or a cemetery salesperson contacts them, they get misled or pressured into pre-paying for their opening and closing of the grave and before they know it, they have an overpriced, inflated casket and burial vault also!

Remember, ALWAYS contact your local funeral director just to compare prices.    Many funeral homes have served their communities for generation after generation and are a permanent staple in their town and have served families and people with the utmost devotion, integrity, and loyalty that they can.  At Skirpan Funeral Home, we will be more than happy to answer your questions about caskets truthfully and honestly.  Our Funeral Directors at Skirpan Funeral Home live, work, and attend church in this community that we serve.  Cemetery and third party salespeople are usually part of a large corporation that normally come and go.  Why give away thousands of dollars of your hard earned money and pay over inflated prices on merchandise at the cemetery with a person that you really don't even know that well?
